@corybooker Guard your energy. Protect your spirit and emotional resources. Be strategic in who you engage and why. And sometimes, choose to just listen, even if it is just to better learn the arguments of folks who you disagree with. In the end, I have found myself much better off by not always taking the bait to argue with someone who has no intention of sharing ideas in good faith and instead just wants to troll and agitate. #CoryStories #Listen

I’ve taken to watching TikTok videos to wind down before I go to sleep. I love the music and the stupid dad jokes and the dancing and the cute dog videos (have you seen scruffabella?). But I’ve also started watching Cory Booker, who shares stories about kindness and compassion after his morning run.
This video is about 9 seconds. It’s for those among us who are confronted by people who get on our last nerve. For those who spend time with people they can’t stand. For those who are just tired of arguing all the time.
For those who don’t have TikTok, here’s what it says: “One of the greatest pieces of advice I’ve ever received for wellbeing — You do not have to attend every argument you’re invited to.”
It certainly applies in divorce – sometimes I think ex-spouses must be the most aggravating people on earth. After all, they know how to press every hot button there is. But they aren’t the only ones. There is no shortage of annoying people around – so it is a good lesson for all of us.
With this video, Sen. Booker writes, “Guard your energy. Protect your spirit and emotional resources. Be strategic in who you engage and why. And sometimes, choose to just listen, even if it is just to better learn the arguments of folks who you disagree with. In the end, I have found myself much better off by not always taking the bait to argue with someone who has no intention of sharing ideas in good faith and instead just wants to troll and agitate.”
Before you respond to someone who is trying to start a fight, ask yourself, “is this worth fighting about?” Some things are definitely worth fighting for. But not everything. In other words, you don’t always have to take the bait!!!
(I guess I should have listened to my own advice when I was on the beach a few weeks ago… ha ha).
