I hope you had a good summer! Congratulations to your parents for getting through another summer and another first day of school. Each new school year is a milestone, reminding you that your kids are getting older, while you’re staying the same age. Funny how that happens! (smile).
I’ve been musing, with Kamala’s meteoric rise, about how profoundly and permanently things can change in an instant — Sometimes bringing hope and joy back!
This is true in politics and world events, but it is also true in our own lives. We start a new school or a new job. We move. We discover a new passion. We fall in love. We fall out of love. We get divorced. Someone we love has an accident. Or dies. Life happens and it can change our perspective forever. Suddenly, we may be waking up in a different home, with different smells and sounds.
And such it is with me. I’ve lived in Brooklyn for 22 years. Last year, I decided to live somewhere quieter, with a slower pace, but near New York City. It took some time to transition because I’ve got a great community in Brooklyn. But a few weeks ago, I moved to Nyack. It’s quiet. It’s peaceful. It’s beautiful. And it’s easier to get to my Mom’s. It’s a warm and welcoming community, but I don’t know a lot of folks here, so it feels a little vulnerable. (If you know anyone cool in the area, please tell me!)
I’ll still be working with clients in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and other parts of the greater New York City area. That hasn’t changed.
Even though I’ve been planning this for a long time, it feels like it happened in the blink of an eye. I don’t hear so many sirens or honking horns. The sidewalks aren’t crowded. The other day, I saw a young deer running across the street. Often, Sophie Gooddog and I walk down to the park on the Hudson. (Thank goodness I have her by my side!) I have a different perspective – literally and figuratively. It’s a little daunting, but I keep reminding myself that when one door closes, another one opens.
It’s a new chapter. Here’s to new beginnings!
