I’m really honored to participate in a year-long teacher training run by Gary Friedman and Catherine Conner at the Center for Understanding in Conflict. My colleagues in the group (fellow ‘learners’) are from all over the world, so we usually meet on Zoom, but last week, we gathered in person in northern California for an intensive 4 days at a retreat center amid the redwood trees.
We came from New York, Boston, Milan, Munich, Frankfurt, Shanghai, Colorado, and Thailand. We came with open hearts and minds, nervous and eager, to learn how to teach mediation. We practiced teaching and gave each other feedback. We got to know each other and support each other, and there was even a little chance for conflict resolution. : )
Today I am sharing with you a short clip of my teaching. We were exploring the roles of each person in a legal setting. (The next part of this training would be to explore the roles of each person involved in a mediation and then to compare them.)
Many thanks to CUC and to my fellow learners for their participation and their great feedback afterward. It was wonderful to connect with mediators from around the world as colleagues and new friends. And I can’t wait to teach – I’m as excited about learning to teach mediation as I was about learning to mediate in the first place!
