Sophie Gooddog, Meet Sophie Baddog!

July 21, 2025 By Joy Rosenthal

I met a neighbor the other day, and this was our conversation:

“What a lovely dog?” she asked. “What’s her name?”

“Sophie Gooddog,” I replied.

“Oh, that’s funny,” she said. “I have a friend who also has a dog named Sophie. And she also has an African grey parrot. She says ‘Bad Dog’ so often to Sophie that the parrot calls the dog, ‘Sophie Baddog!’

I laughed.

(Here’s a video about how smart African grey parrots are!)

My neighbor continued, “One day, my friend pulled out her sewing. The parrot flew down to look, and she told the parrot, ‘This is called sewing.’ ‘Sewing Baddog!’ the parrot replied. And then laughed at its own little joke.” That parrot sounds awesome!! (and I bet the dog is not too bad, herself!)

I just wanted to share this in case you needed a chuckle. ( And wanted to think about parrots making jokes!) And, as always, I’m feeling so lucky to have Sophie Gooddog by my side.

A neighbor’s story about a dog, a parrot, and a clever joke gave me a good laugh—and reminded me how lucky I am to have Sophie Gooddog by my side.

That’s all I got for today.

Have a good week!
