Helping your kids deal with difficult news

October 16, 2023 By Joy Rosenthal

Learn how to talk to your children about the current violence in Israel and Gaza with expert resources, including Dr. Jamie Howard on CBS, NPR's Becky Sullivan, and UNICEF's guidance.

The world has changed in a week – all of the news is about grief, chaos, and fear. And even though it isn’t happening so much here, it feels very close, doesn’t it? How do we talk with our children in such a time?

I wanted to share a few resources about how to talk to children about the violence in Israel and Gaza that might be helpful.

Dr. Jamie Howard on CBS Morning Show (9 min video)

NPR’s Becky Sullivan on the Life Kit podcast (14 min)

UNICEF article – How to talk to your children about conflict and war

I think a lot about how to have difficult conversations with children and teens. I’m not trying to get into a debate about the war but would love to hear from you about how you are taking care of yourself and how you are talking to your children during this difficult time.

Peace to you and your family!
