Share the light!

November 4, 2024 By Joy Rosenthal

I was honored to be in a Zoom meeting with Mondaire Jones and Sen. Cory Booker a few nights ago. It was quite powerful to be in an intimate setting with these 2 powerhouses. It really felt like a visit with them both – like we were sitting around a table and talking.

Cory talked about The Amen Effect by Rabbi Sharon Brous. He said ‘We are light workers. I want us to be better sharers of light.’ (I love that he quotes thought leaders from so many different religious communities.)

He talked about us (all) needing a shift in framing so that we see the world filled with possibility, hope, and abundance. He talked about leaders of character who have a strong moral compass. He said we should ask ourselves, when we are voting for someone, ‘When they see you, do they love you? Do they see your beauty? Do they see your potential?” I’ve thought of asking those questions in personal relationships, but never of asking them from politicians. Hmmm.

Here’s a video of Sen. Booker speaking about these ideas on MLK Day a few years ago:

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
~ Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

May all of us continue to shine and continue to love.
