Divorce Mediation
Many divorcing couples are turning to mediation because it is less expensive and less adversarial than a traditional, litigated divorce. Mediation has been shown to be better for the children of divorce. And it allows you, as a divorcing party, to remain in the driver's seat while you make important life decisions, rather than delegating them to a lawyer or a judge.
Most divorce mediations will involve these basic issues:
Splitting Up
An in-depth review of the alternatives available to couples who are divorcing or separating
Child-Support
A user-friendly summary of the laws in New York State
• How will you divide what you own together?
• Will either of you support the other after the divorce?
• How will you work together to make decisions about your children?
• How will you divide your parenting time?
• How will you each support the children financially?
• What legal grounds for the divorce are appropriate, and who will file the court papers?
Divorce mediation helps you and your spouse make these important decisions together.
Because our mediators are also lawyers, once the mediation is finished, we can draft the settlement agreement and all of the divorce papers and file them with the New York State Courts.
