Birth Mothers, Adoptive Parents
We respect and support women who have made the commitment to carry a pregnancy to term and then place the child for adoption. You should have an adoption attorney to handle the legal process and a counselor to help guide you through what may be a very emotional time. The adoptive parents will usually pay for all aspects of the adoption itself, including your legal fees. Rosenthal Law & Mediation can provide the legal counseling, and we can refer you to mental-health professionals who have experience working with mothers who have gone through this process.
If you are adoptive parents who have identified a mother who wishes to place her soon-to-be-born or newborn child for adoption, there are special factors and risks involved beyond those of any other adoption. Foremost is the chance that the birth mother will change her mind about surrendering her parental rights. While there are no guarantees, we will make sure that you are fully aware of all the possibilities as you move forward towards finalization of the adoption.
In order to insure unbiased advocacy for and the equal standing of everyone involved in this emotional and delicate process, it is important that the birth mother and adoptive parents be represented by different attorneys and that the birth mother have the assistance of a mental-health specialist.
